Using apt-get

Debian supplies a tool named Apt to install software, it is like yum in RedHat Linux.

Your first task will be to customize the /etc/apt/sources.list configuration file.

To install a software, use

apt-get install software_name

To uninstall a software, use

apt-get remove software_name

For help, use

man apt-get

Using dpkg manually

Use dpkg -i to install .deb package.

dpkg -i software_name.deb
